Envu signs MoU with Institute of Medical Research Malaysia to collaborate on vector control research

SETIA ALAM, 12 AUGUST 2026 – Envu Malaysia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Malaysia, represented by the Ministry of Health through the Institute for Medical Research (IMR), to collaborate on vector control research over the next five years. The agreement brings a national public-health research institute together with a private-sector environmental science company, a public-private collaboration built on shared expertise and mutual benefit.

The MoU sets out a framework for the two parties to work together on the scientific evaluation and development of vector control solutions, with a shared focus on product quality, bio-efficacy, and the growing challenge of insecticide resistance.

Under the framework, Envu and IMR intend to cooperate across several areas:

• Evaluating and conducting research on insecticides for space spraying, residual spraying, and larviciding, with emphasis on quality, bio-efficacy, and insecticide resistance.
• Working with IMR and other stakeholders to develop effective, sustainable, and environmentally responsible insecticides.
• Assessing new modes of action to help address the increasing risk of insecticide resistance.
• Exploring integrated vector management approaches that extend beyond insecticides, including non-insecticidal tools such as monitoring devices and educational resources.
• Sharing scientific knowledge through conferences and seminars, and jointly presenting research findings.
• Running field-based and classroom training to strengthen stakeholder knowledge and technical skills in vector control.

As a research and evaluation framework, the MoU is a starting point for collaboration; specific projects will be agreed separately between the two parties.

Insecticide resistance is a persistent challenge for vector control programmes, particularly those targeting mosquitoes and other disease-carrying insects. By pairing IMR’s scientific expertise with Envu’s experience in mosquito and vector management, the collaboration aims to support more effective and responsible approaches to protecting public health.
